Outdoor Classroom

May 2017

In May 2017, teachers and community members created an outdoor classroom space for Wellwood. A local high school created benches and fourth and fifth grade students helped to spread mulch for the classroom.  The outdoor classroom is used by students during the spring, summer, and fall months.

Hydroponic Tower

September 2017 - Current

Wellwood began growing lettuces and herbs using a hydroponic tower in fall of 2017.  Students see the life-cycle of a plant from seeds to consumption. Every 6-8 weeks, a new class starts to grow lettuce and herbs using the tower. At the end, they celebrate with a salad party.

In May 2018, Wellwood's Green Team installed signs around Wellwood's campus. The signs identified different outdoor spaces such as Butterfly Garden, Outdoor Classroom, and No Mow Zone.

Butterfly Garden

2015-Current

Each spring Wellwood's Green Team takes care of the butterfly garden. In the spring of 2018, students painted rocks to help mark the border of the garden.
