Our Mission

Wellwood International School has been working to make a change in the environment and bring awareness to others on the importance of going green.  Wellwood began their Green School journey in 2013,  with many students and faculty members working to make the school more environmentally friendly. In 2015, Wellwood was honored to receive their Green School certification.

Wellwood International continues to work hard to not only say we are making environmental changes, but also that our students understand and value the importance of making these changes.  Students at all grade levels have participated in projects to further their knowledge and understanding of the environment.  Students at Wellwood understand the actions we take today to help our environment will not only benefit us, but generations to come as well. For example, our students know that picking-up trash around the school not only makes the school grounds look prettier, but also helps to protect native animals and prevent pollution in our water systems.

Wellwood is honored and beyond grateful for the partnerships we have formed with countless organizations including The Maryland Department of the Environment, Cromwell Valley Nature Center, CHAI, Home Depot, and our own PTA.  Without the support of these organizations, we would not be able to reach our goals and expand our efforts in becoming greener.  This year, Wellwood will be holding their 5th annual school-wide Earth Day Celebration. This day is filled with Earth Day themed games, learning stations sponsored by local organizations, and opportunities to teach the community about being green.

Our Top 5 Moments

Our Outdoor Classroom

In the spring of 2017, Wellwood installed an outdoor classroom. This space provides the students an opportunity to take their learning outdoors.  The classroom is used during the spring and fall months by all Wellwood students for a variety of activities.

5th Annual Earth Day Celebration

Wellwood will be hosting its 5th Annual Earth Day celebration this year.  This all-day event allows Wellwood students to spend the day outdoors learning and engaging in different environmental related activities.  Each year a variety organization such as MDE, MD State Parks, and more attend to help enrich the experience for our students.

Founding our Green Team

During the 2016-2017 school year, Wellwood started an afternoon club for students.  Students meet monthly and participate in variety of activities.  They help to create and implement different school initiatives and projects.

The Hydroponic Garden

In the Fall of 2017, Wellwood started an edible garden through the use of a hydroponic tower.  Throughout the year, different classes and groups plant and observe the tower.  They also have a salad party at the completion of growth.

Our Bluebird Houses

A group of fifth grade students helped to install bluebird house on Wellwood's campus during the winter of 2017. Our fifth grade and fourth grade students continue to monitor and take care of the bluebird house during the spring months.
