Save the Bees

2016-2017

During the 2016-2017 year, 92 first grade students learned about unique animals and worked together to write a “How-To” text.  Students wrote about how to save the bees after learning about their roles in the environment.  They used their “How-To” text to plant wild flowers in order to help our local bee population.

Blue Bird Houses

February 2017 - Current

In February 2017, fifth grade students helped to install 3 blue bird houses on Wellwood's campus. The fifth graders continued to monitor the boxes through the spring to make sure the boxes were being used by blue birds.  The boxes continued to be cleaned out and monitored by fourth and fifth graders.

No Mow Zone

2015 - Current

Wellwood maintains a large No Mow zone located on the east side of our school building.  Students in our green team assist in the maintenance by ensuring the area is free of litter.  In 2017, two Blue Bird houses were added to our no mow zone.  In addition to blue birds, there are also rabbits, squirrels, and deer that frequent this area.  Students also spotted a ground hog who made this area his home during the spring of 2017!
