Green School Application Process
During the 2018-2019 school year, staff were informed of Wellwood's recertification application process. Each month (Sept., Oct., Nov., Dec., Feb.) the Green School Committee met to discuss the status of and needs for the Green School Application. The information was shared with the whole staff after each Green School Committee meeting and in the weekly staff newsletter. Morgan Stein shared the progress of the Green School Application at the September PTA meeting.

Here, they were able to collect a variety of resources that could be used in environmentally focused lessons. We also connected with local organizations about future classroom and school visits.

Edible Garden PD 2018
Morgan Stein, Kindergarten Teacher, and Allie Devereaux, STAT teacher, attended the BCPS Edible Garden Professional Development. They were introduced to and became familiar with the BCPS Edible Gardening Protocol. This protocol is required for all school-based vegetable and herb gardens and is used in conjunction with Wellwood's Tower Garden.
OUR Schools Waste Reduction 2019
Teachers learned about the effects of waste on the environment. They explored the different stages of a product's life cycle and discovered alternatives to throwing away household products when you are finished with them. These lessons were then transferred to the classroom for Our Schools Environmental Day. Due to a snow day, this PD was conducted all online and Wellwood's Green Committee met with grade levels individually to follow up. This opportunity was made possible by a grant from The Education Foundation of Baltimore County.
